Why this case matters
VNA shows that one research infrastructure can support both frequent market monitoring and a deliberately broader annual benchmark without confusing their different purposes.
The challenge
VNA approached C2C in 2011 because leasing companies needed to compare their own development with the market while VNA needed structured information about the sector.
The research had two different rhythms. A compact quarterly monitor needed to track fleet development consistently, while an annual study needed room for a substantially broader set of market variables.
The approach
The quarterly process collects fleet-size information for relevant vehicle categories. The annual research is deliberately broader and can include areas such as inflow and outflow, fuel mix and customer information.
Leasing companies enter their own information. C2C handles invitations and reminders and provides the Survey Tool process and individual reporting. VNA and its research expert Peter Risseeuw determine the content and validate the information.
Reference groups such as small, medium and large organisations are determined by the research expert rather than by C2C. Broader market analysis also remains with VNA/Peter. This keeps the division between platform operation and substantive market expertise clear.
Who does what?
VNA / research expert — Determine the research content, validate submissions, define comparison groups and perform the substantive market analysis. VNA manages its member/user relationship.
Compare to Compete — Provides the Survey Tool, invitations/reminders, data-collection process and individual reporting.
What the programme delivers
Participants can follow general market development and receive individual benchmark feedback in both the quarterly and annual research context.
VNA can use the wider aggregate analysis for member information, sector communication and representation.
The case shows why different research frequencies can coexist: quarterly monitoring answers a different question from the more extensive annual study.
